My media is purely elemental; Charcoal, Paper, and Erasers are the tools of my expression. Paper is blackened and, subsequently, some of the charcoal is strategically erased. The light beneath emerges. My intent is to create forms of grace and simplicity based on my understanding of the symmetry between the opposing forces of light and darkness. I have come to know the darkness as a fertile ground for personal revelation. Bringing forth illumination evokes meaningful implications in my life and in my art. Due, in part to an intensely religious education in my childhood in which compelling archaic symbologies and rituals were prevalent, I have developed certain philosophical ideals concerning the necessity of sacredness in my life. First and foremost, my art is for my personal redemption. I seek a connection with the luminosity of my own being; a union with Sanctity. Through my art I am able to see such aspects mirrored back to me in images communicating spiritual mastery and a timeless presence. Any entities or elements which I recognize as being sublime yet powerful, such as spiritual masters, shamans, indigenous peoples, animals or those silent repose or prayer are potential subjects for my artistic endeavors. I am inspired by sacred teachings, ancient cultures, the intricacies of nature, and light as it gives life and form to all I perceive
